About
Folk/Roots on the Lawn, in various guises, as a modest little event, has been running for some years now. It is, perhaps, a little unusual in that it has no budget whatsoever and relies on the good will of those involved - artists, staff, the Abbey Mill Centre, the good folk of Tintern and various other benefactors and supporters, who lend the festival space, equipment, time and, not least, artistic prowess.
Amazingly, for such a small festival, it has featured (and looks as if it will continue to do so) a number of international artists and signed bands, in addition to the Welsh, English and very local talent that has graced its stages. This, we feel, is in part due to folks committing due to the beauty of the setting, the atmosphere of the event (very relaxed!) and the magnanimous hosting of the Abbey Mill management and staff.
The 'genre' we encourage is the rootsy, the homespun, the innovative, the chance-taking but within a basic folk/roots/acoustic format. We would see the festival as the antithesis of and remedy for the X Factor, 'tired folk' sort-of-thing.
Amdanom Ni
Mae Werin ar y Lawnt, yn ei ffurfiau wahanol, 'di rhedeg ers rhai blynyddoedd nawr. Mae'n ychydig anarferol achos nad oes ganddo gyllideb o gwbl ac mae'n dibynnu ar ewyllys da y rhai sy'n ymwneud - artistiaid, staff, a'r Ganolfan Melin yr Abaty, y werin da o Tyndyrn a chymwynaswyr amrywiol eraill a chefnogwyr, sy'n rhoi benthyg yr ŵyl gofod, offer, amser ac, yn anad dim, prowess artistig.
Mae'n anhygoel fod ŵyl mor fach yn cynnwys (ac mae'n edrych fel pe bai y bydd yn parhau i wneud hynny) nifer o artistiaid rhyngwladol a bandiau sydd wedi'i llofnodi , yn ychwanegol i'r artistiaid Gymraeg, Saesneg a talent lleol sydd wedi harddu ei gamau. Mae hyn, rydym yn teimlo, yn ganlyniad o harddwch y lleoliad, awyrgylch y digwyddiad (hamddenol iawn!) a'r rheolwyr a staff Melin yr Abaty.
Y fath o artistiaid rydan ni'n annog yw'r "rootsy", "homespun", arloesol, y cyfle-fynd, ond o fewn werin sylfaenol / gwreiddiau / fformat acwstig. Byddem yn gweld yr ŵyl fel y'r unioni ar gyfer yr X Factor, 'werin blinedig' math-o-beth.
